In January of 2021, we welcomed Pete Grill to our team as the new Production Manager. Since he started, he has made great strides and has helped our team in many ways. We recently sat down with Pete to learn more about his first 6 months on our team and are happy to share more about the challenges he has helped us overcome, how he has improved efficiency for our team & customers, his favorite part of being on our team, and more. Let’s dive in!
What has been the biggest change you have seen in the last 6 months at Mankato Packaging? Our housekeeping and organization are much improved. This has provided a better focus on inventory and determining future needs.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Culture change and team building are our biggest challenges. Effectively communicating and further demonstrating a better way are sometimes sacrificed for perceived “efficiency” or doing it the “same way we always have.”
What has been your biggest achievement?
We’ve changed from a magnetic schedule board to a digital schedule available at every piece of equipment for every operator, real-time. This also aids in forecasting and providing accurate lead times to our customers.
How has the team helped you to settle into your new role?
Although culture change and revised processes can take time, for the most part, our team recognizes the improvements being made. The team is well versed in “what we’ve always done”: providing additional opportunities to improve.
Looking ahead, what are your goals for the next 6 months in your position?
Ultimately, the goal is to simplify our business for all involved which will increase efficiencies and open capacity to better supply current customers and allow us to seek new business.
Have you been able to get out fishing on some local lakes?
Unfortunately, I have not been able to fish yet, but given the recent high temperatures, the fall is looking promising.
Where is your favorite place to grab dinner as a newcomer to Mankato?
My wife and I enjoy Boulder Tap House and Grizzly’s most often.
We want to extend a big “Thank you!” to Pete for sharing his successes and for all the hard work you put in every single day at Mankato Packaging. We look forward to seeing what you accomplish over the next 6 months!
